XPE Closed-Cell Foam Gains Traction as Cost-Effective HVAC Insulation Solution

As commercial construction and industrial refrigeration projects continue to prioritize energy efficiency and fire safety, one material is quietly becoming a go-to specification for engineers and contractors: Chemically Cross-Linked Polyethylene Foam (XPE).

Manufactured through a chemical cross-linking process that forms a stable 3D polymer network, XPE foam delivers a closed-cell structure that keeps thermal conductivity low (≤0.045 W/m·K) while maintaining lightweight flexibility. The material is available in thicknesses ranging from 12mm to 30mm and can be laminated with reflective aluminum PET foil and pre-coated with water-based self-adhesive backing—turning it into an all-in-one duct insulation wrap.
